Education

Clayton Binkley is a sculptor who creates large scale, site-specific artworks that respond to the ways in which we are embedded in our environment and how the physical, social and conceptual dimensions of that relationship change over time. Kinetics, environmental installation and performance are often employed as a means of investigating these concepts and creating entry points into the work.

Collaboration with other artists is a fundamental part of his practice, finding inspiration and invention at the intersection of different artistic trajectories and in the relationships that are built upon common purpose. Recent and ongoing collaborators include Adrienne James, John Grade, Taiji Miyasaka and Jennifer Newsom and Tom Carruthers of Dream The Combine.

Clayton lives and works in Seattle, Washington where he maintains a studio and a diverse network of project partners who help to realize his work. He holds degrees in visual art and structural engineering has dual US and Canadian citizenship and has also resided in Austria, the United Kingdom and Denmark.
